Blog Flashback: The Loudness War

I’ve had a few blogs previous to this one. Here is a quick entry on the loudness war.

Record companies, in their infinite wisdom, try to compete with one another in what has been termed the loudness war. This is where songs are created in such a way as to sound louder, as opposed to crisper and clearer. I can’t do the technical part justice so you can read up on it here.

The Van Halen Tour

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

Despite my attempt at being reasonable, I do have a few unreasonable notions. For instance, the upcoming Van Halen tour. I just can’t bring myself to be enthusiastic about the tour without Michael Anthony being part of it.

It’s not that the music will necessarily suffer without him there, its just the idea that an original member has been excluded from the tour for such a stupid reason, that being he had the gall to play with another band while Van Halen wasn’t touring. Heaven forbid he go out and earn a few bucks. I guess it’s the vainglorious actions of Eddie that bothers me. Get a grip you drugged up old fart! (There I go being judgmental again. I need to keep working on that.)

Note: While looking up the difference between egomania and megalomania, I came across this quote:

“The megalomaniac differs from the narcissist by the fact that he wishes to be powerful rather than charming, and seeks to be feared rather than loved. To this type belong many lunatics and most of the great men of history.” [Bertrand Russell]

BTW: I chose vainglorious instead. I just liked the sound of it.
